What Can Karate do for you?
Karate has endless benefits for all age and abilities. The most obvious would be the overall improvement of health and fitness but at Institute we strive to help all students to develop high self esteem, humility, discipline and respect towards both self and others. Karate training can also help you to establish life long friendships with the people you come into contact with while training. The IOGKF Karate Federation has over 50,000 members in over 50 different Nations, giving you access to a broad social network that you can be a part of.
The Institute offers a large variety in regards to classes and training methods, explanation of some of our programs is below.
PEE-WEE CLASSES (UNDER 10 BOYS AND GIRLS)
Pee-wee classes are a fantastic way for children under 10 to develop social skills by mixing in with other children in slightly different atmosphere.
As well as this the children will learn how to defend themselves against attacks as well as handling everyday situations in an under 10's life, for example bullying at school. As well as this they will learn and develop respect, discipline and experience goal setting and achieving.
Our goal at the Institute is to teach Children that violence is not the answer to problems that present themselves in life and that avoiding conflict is ones best choice. Gradings and Tournaments (optional) are held throughout the year to give the children something extra to strive for in their everyday training. The IOGKF Australian organisation also holds annual childrens only training camps and championships.
Our Instructor, Sensei David Lambert, is well renowned for his excellent ability to instruct children and appeal and deliver to their wants and need with training. Lambert was an instructor in 2007 at the European Childrens Gasshuku held in England. Over 500 children trained and Sensei Lambert was the only foreign instructor.
At the Institute we understand that some children are involved in other after school activities throughout a variety of different seasons, therefore we offer training for under 10's, 5 days a week during the school terms to help accommodate the needs of both parents and children.
We recommend that the student trains 2 days a week and perhaps on the Saturday if they like. However they are indeed welcome to train the full 5 days.
Generally we allow children to start training from the school going age of 5 year old. However we do make exceptions for students of 3-4 years old who can prove they can focus for the length of the one hour class.

SEPERATE BOYS AND GIRLS CLASSES (11 - 16 years old)
The Institute prides itself on being on one the only Karate schools in the southern tablelands that offers both separate boys and girls classes.
We feel it is important for boys and girls to have some sessions where they are apart. Our unique programs mean that both the boys and girls programs, although having the same goals, are run differently.
As well as the personal overall health benefit and the development of good moral character, we attempt to gear training towards more fronting issues in teenage life.
For the girls classes, as well as practicing the whole Karate syllabus we help the young ladies to a level where they are easily capable of defending themselves if provoke by either female or male attackers.
With students that are in their later teens, we teach street and party wise methods. We show the students how to analyse potentially dangerous situations, before the even arise along with being aware of how to defend themselves against such threats as drink spiking and sexual assault as well as avoidable confrontations.
For Boys, again we concentrate on the whole syllabus, but we focus more on developing humility. Some young men, especially in senior High school years, can be egocentric through the Karate training we develop the students humility and respect towards themselves and others. The street and party wise angle is analysed again, but from a different angle, for example developing skills to avoid confrontation for aggressive parties, but being capable of defending themselves if provoked.
In both programs friendships are forged and goal setting and achieving is a great way to give both boys and girls a way to challenge themselves through they're training. Both gratings and tournaments (optional) are held throughout the year as well as regular IOGKF National training camps, where the students have a chance to study with world class instructors from overseas.
The Institute is a big supporter of its students succeeding in their educational studies and, with the flexible timetable it offers, gives its students the space to do so.
Mixed classes are held on Saturday and during the school holidays with boys and girls, so both genders do have opportunities to train with each other as well.

ADULTS CLASSES (17 - 18 YEARS OLD AND UP)
Our Adults classes cater for people of all ages and abilities. We cover the entire syllabus and help the students achieve whatever goals they may have when beginning Karate training.
The overall improvement of health and fitness as well as the development of strength, flexibility and co-ordination are great reasons to take up Karate training. If you are looking for an all year round work out which is never ending and offers you chances to progress, than you've come to the right place
Karate training can also help with stress relief and and rehabilitation of some injuries. Even if you have a previous injury, we alter the training to help you develop strength and flexibility to help speed up the recovery process.
Training is also a great way to mix with a different group of people and broaden your social network, while become fit and strong at the same time. Karate training, unlike some gym or fitness classes, is a full body work out.
Training camps are held regularly in Australia and overseas, so opportunities to both travel overseas and train under some of the world's highest ranking instructors is available.
